Holistic Eating for Cancer Patients

A holistic diet can benefit your health in many ways, and it has been proven to be an effective method for combating cancer. The effectiveness of all forms of cancer treatment is dependent on the types of food you consume, and it is essential that you learn how to identify foods that promote the development of cancer cells, and those that can assist healing.


Holistic Diet

Generally, all types of plant food contain nutrients that have anti-cancer properties. The consumption of fruits, vegetables, and herbs can reduce the risk of cancer and control the proliferation of cancer cells, as well as strengthen, repair, and cleanse the body. It is recommended that you consume more green leafy vegetables, such as spinach and kale; cruciferous vegetables, such as cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli; and sea vegetables. Fruits such as dark grapes (with skins and seeds) and berries are loaded with antioxidants that have extraordinary cancer-fighting properties. Other plant foods that you should consume in greater amounts include ginger, turmeric, garlic, and green tea. The best thing to do is to include plenty of organic plant foods in your diet, because such foods provide additional protection against cancer.

If you must eat meat, you should try to limit your consumption to small amounts of organic poultry or beef, or fish that are caught in the wild. Legumes and beans are excellent sources of fiber and nutrients, but they should only be consumed in moderation. Experts have different opinions concerning the anti-cancer benefits of whole grains, because of their gluten content and low digestibility. If you want to consume whole grains, you should opt for gluten-free varieties only.

It is known that refined sugar fuels the development of cancer cells, and it should be eliminated from your diet. You should also avoid consuming refined flour, sugar substitutes, and foods that contain trans fatty acids, because studies have confirmed that they can contribute to cancer growth. Other foods that are detrimental to cancer patients include processed foods, dairy, carbonated beverages, alcohol, coffee, and foods that contain chlorine and fluoride.

Ideally, a holistic eating for cancer patients  should minimize exposure to toxic substances and meet the increasing nutritional requirements that result from cancer therapy. To make your holistic diet more effective, it is advisable that you make certain changes to your lifestyle, such as increasing physical activity, quitting smoking, and starting a spiritual practice.
