I am not sure whether you know that you can soothe away scar and make it less noticeable by massage. Scar massage has been proved to be really effective when done regularly. By regular I mean at least once a day. Before you start it’s better to consult your doctor and confirm that wound has healed completely and see to that no scab remains. Massaging Technique Tips
- Using your fingertips, gently apply pressure on the scar. Use enough pressure to push in just 1 to 3 millimeters. You can use lotion or oil of your choice. You can make use of herbal oils to get quick and better results. Using Aloe vera gel massage couple of times every week as it helps to speed up the process and it also nourishes the skin.
- Move your fingers in circular motion, up/down direction, make crosswise strokes and then finally move in reverse circular motion. Do this for about 3 minutes and 3 times every day.
- You can spend time on thick areas, giving gentle tension where you are able to feel the resistance.
The massage shouldn’t be painful or creating discomfort or causing swelling after you stop. You can consult your surgeon to know how well the wound has healed. You have to start massaging only after the wound has healed completely. Generally most scars remain for three to four months and then get cleared up gradually. However if you have heavy scaring then it may take years or it might even remain permanently. But by doing regular massage you have great chances of removing the scar or at at least making it more dull.
