Herbal Treatment for Wrinkles

There are many antiaging products on offer in the market today, and what most people don’t realize is that these products may either cause the skin even more damage or give the consumer only very little benefit, since many of these products are a mix of harmful chemicals which has the potential to worsen the skin condition. It’s a good thing, though, that a considerable number of experts are now looking at a more organic yet safe way for women to keep those wrinkles at bay and enjoy smooth, young-looking skin longer without any adverse effects.

Herbal Remedies for Wrinkles

Grape

Grape seed possesses high amount of proanthocyanidins, antioxidants deemed to be fifty times more effective compared to vitamin C or E, and is thus more able to protect the skin from tissue damage caused by the free radicals in the body. Also, extracts from grape seed binds with the collagen in the skin, making it more supple, elastic, and less prone to develop signs of the aging process like fine lines and wrinkles.

Fennel and Coltsfoot

Fennel is best used in combination with coltsfoot, another herb helpful to remove fine lines and wrinkles. A facial pack is prepared by pouring ½ cup of boiling water in a bowl containing 1 tablespoon of dried fennel leaves and 2 tablespoons of dried coltsfoot leaves. The next step is to steep it for 12-15 minutes and strain, keeping the liquid to which one can add oatmeal and apply over the face. Fennel helps to prevent and eliminate wrinkles by softening and toning the skin, it also prevents acne by closing the skin’s pores.

Acerola

Commonly known as Antilles cherry, this plant produces a scarlet fruit that is very rich in vitamin C. It does not only boost the immune system but is also a very powerful antioxidant, reducing skin damage from free radicals. Along with that it moisturizes, and tightens skin, thus reducing wrinkles.

Carrot

Not just an ordinary kitchen vegetable, carrots have displayed a potent ability to reduce wrinkles and prevent acne. It is a well established fact that carrot packs a lot of vitamin A that is not only good for the eye sight, but very healthy for the skin as well. It is very easy to prepare, all one has to do is to mash the vegetable thoroughly and apply all over the face as a face mask. It can be left for around 10-15 minutes before rinsing.

Aloe

The herb has been used throughout history to cure and manage a host of skin diseases and conditions. Its transparent gel found in the leaves is considered to be a very potent source of alpha hydroxy acids and is used by applying it daily over the skin for a period of around 8-16 weeks. It also has plenty of antioxidants that prevent tissue damage from free radicals and also has sun protection qualities to defend the skin from UV rays.

Calendula

Calendula is used in treating various skin conditions. It enables the skin to regenerate and encourages the growth of new skin cells resulting in younger and more supple skin, particularly true if the wrinkles are due to UV exposure. Aside from boosting tissue regeneration, calendula also provides UV protection, soothes UV damaged tissues, and safeguards the skin from infections.

Rose hip

Many alternative health care practitioners have long established rose hip seed oil to be a natural and exceptional source of vitamin C, and vitamin A which bolsters the body’s ability to regenerate old and damaged skin, lighten scars, hasten healing of burn wounds, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Lemon Balm

Lemon balm is one of the herbs touted to remove wrinkles and mild scars. The remedy is prepared by pouring around 2 cups of boiled water over some fresh lemon balm and allowing it to cool. This can be used as a facial rinse every morning. Lemon balm can minimize wrinkles by tightening sagging skin and thus giving a smoother appearance.
