Uses of Beetroot

Beetroot contains various vital constituents that include carbohydrates, little protein and fat. It also contains alkaline elements, potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron.

MEDICINAL VALUES:

Mainly it is used in combating against acidosis and other natural processes of elimination. It is used as medicine in various disorders like-

ANAEMIA:

Red beetroot juice is like human blood, thus it helps in the arousal of haemoglobin content in the blood leading to increase in RBC count helping in normal breathing.

HEART DISORDERS:

Its juice is a good solvent for inorganic calcium deposits, thus it is used widely in the treatment of hypertension, arteriosclerosis other vein problems and other heart diseases.

CONSTIPATION:

It contains cellulose that helps to ease the passage of stool. Regular consumption of it reduces the state called habitual constipation.

PILES:

It must be boiled in water and a concentrated liquid should be obtained and applied in the affected region. It can also be consumed, thus serving a good treatment for piles.

DANDRUFF:

Concentrated liquid obtained from boiling beetroot can be applied to the hair, thus it can clear dandruff. Every night the hair must be massaged with a mixture of beet water and ginger. Dandruff will be completely cured after the massage treatment for about 4 to 5 nights.

DIGESTIVE DISORDERS:

Various digestive disorders like hepatitis, nausea and vomiting caused due to biliousness, diarrhoea and dysentery can be cured by consuming a mixture of beetroot juice and a tsp of lime juice.

JAUNDICE:

Its juice taken once a day can prevent jaundice. For treatment of jaundice, its leaves in salads, beetroot juice mixed with lime juice can also be used to cure jaundice.

KIDNEY RELATED PROBLEMS:

For various kidney and gall bladder disorders, beetroot juice along with carrot and cucumber are helpful in curing.

SKIN:

For skin related problems such as acne, skin inflammations, pimples and pustles, application of concentrated liquid of beetroot obtained as a result of heating are very efficient. In case of measles, eruptive fevers and for irritable skin, application of a mixture of 3 parts of beetroot to one part of white vinegar is widely helpful for nourishing the skin by making the skin smooth and clean.

OTHER USES:

Beet juice mixed with cabbage juice, mango juice, papaya juice and carrot juice, consumed daily keeps the body very much healthy and free from all other disorders.

DRAWBACK:

They are somewhat harder to digest.

DIFFERENT WAYS OF CONSUMPTION:

  • Juice.
  • Baked like potatoes.
  • Boiled beet.
  • Steamed or cooked beetroot.
  • Beetroot leaves used in salad.

NOTE:

They must be washed thoroughly before consumption. It is a good tonic for good health. They are used in the preparation of salads, pickles, chutney etc.
