Anemia: The Signs And Symptoms
Anemia is a common health problem for many people, although much of the time it goes undetected and untreated. Anemia is a condition that affects the red blood cells, where abnormal amounts circulate around the body. It is important to understand that there are many different types of anemia which each have their own causes.
The signs and symptoms of anemia can often be misunderstood because they can appear to be as a result of other illnesses or general tiredness and fatigue.

Feeling Tired and Anemic
What Are The Signs And Symptoms?
In general a person with anemia will feel tired and most likely weak. The reason for this is that when a person has anemia, the oxygen to the tissues takes longer to reach them, or completely starved in some cases.
It is important to realize that anemia can be missed if it’s a mild form because the symptoms do normally resemble the seriousness of the anemia.
Symptoms can include:
- Fatigue due to the tissues being starved.
- Weakness. This is natural with fatigue and they normally go hand in hand.
- Breathlessness.
- Rapid Or Irregular Breathing or Palpitations.
- Dizziness.
- Fainting.
- Ringing In The Ears, Also Known As Tinnitus.
- Problems Sleeping.
- Headache.
- Concentration Levels Drop.
The above symptoms can be seen even in the most serious of cases. Normal and common symptoms include:
- Looking Pale.
- The Red Lining Of The Mouth And Eyelids Fading.
- Tachycardia- Fast And Rapid Heartbeat.
- Abnormal Periods. More Or Less Bleeding.

See a Doctor
It is important that if you have any of these signs, particularly over a longer period of time, then you will need to see a doctor. They will most likely send you for a blood test, where anemia can usually be easily spotted.
As you can see there are many signs and symptoms to anemia, and most of these signs could be put down to general poor health or to just feeling under the weather. However it is important that you go and see a doctor because anemia can effect your health in the long term, and the longer you leave it the harder the treatment will be.
